The general objective of the READI is to “promote the integration of NGOs in Mediterranean countries by creating an inter-institutional network and support new forms of collaboration between civil society organizations, governments and the business sector which generate effective and efficient actions for human development”.
On December 01 2011, the international conference held by READI hosted a roundtable discussion highlighting the achievements of the middle eastern partnership for improving social integration of people with disabilities and the work of the Spanish foundation “ONCE” both in Spain and abroad. At the same time, CEMOFPSC (Centro de Estudios de Oriente Medio del la Fundacion Promocion Social de la Cultura) launches a virtual portal on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
During the roundtable discussion, the general director of arcenciel, the Lebanese NGO leading the Middle Eastern partnership, presented the background and achievements of the inter-regional pilot project that was born out of the North-South South Cooperation. The project aims at improving care for people with disabilities in the Middle East. The project incited partnership between Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria and is funded by AECID. One of the main objectives of the project is the launching of a regional platform for virtual services for people with disabilities, and for enhanced communication and coordination among partnering NGOs and other shareholders.

The conference was attended by representatives of NGOs from different Mediterranean counties  such as Algeria, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Spain, Syria and Tunisia.
